Hosting Dr. Scott Lindner for the BMS Seminar Series

We were delighted to host Dr. Scott E. Lindner from Penn State University for the Department of Biomedical Sciences Seminar Series on September 2, 2026. Dr. Lindner was our first invited seminar speaker since the launch of the Ruberto Lab!

Dr. Lindner is a faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Penn State University, where his laboratory investigates the molecular mechanisms governing malaria parasite development and transmission. His research integrates biochemistry, molecular biology, and structural biology to understand how parasites regulate protein production and developmental transitions.

During his seminar, titled “Specialized Ribosomes and Translational Control Promote the Efficient Transmission of Malaria Parasites,” Dr. Lindner discussed how Plasmodium parasites employ specialized ribosomes and translational repression to regulate development and ensure successful transmission between hosts. His presentation highlighted how disrupting these mechanisms could reveal new opportunities for malaria intervention.

Beyond the seminar, we enjoyed engaging scientific discussions and opportunities to exchange ideas about malaria parasite biology. A particular highlight was the graduate student lunch, where thoughtful questions, lively conversations, and genuine enthusiasm reflected the growing interest in parasitology research at Florida State University.

It was a pleasure to welcome Scott. We thank him for an excellent seminar and inspiring discussions, and look forward to future interactions and collaborations!
